This high-profile global cruise line has ambitious growth plans which in the near term include building 14 new cruise ships, at a cost running into billions of dollars. To keep a tight control of designs, builds, design re-use and refits, with a view to minimising change control and associated costs, the company needed a digital platform and traceable process for managing build projects with shipyards. Previously plans, feedback and sign-off had been managed in a largely manual way using spreadsheets and paper. Missed amendments or updates would lead to chargeable changes down the line, pushing up costs and jeopardising build deadlines. The cruise line wanted to make the project lifecycle management more reliable, proactive and traceable, through structured project/case management, giving the company more control as the purchaser.
Project Success
SynApps delivered its purpose-built ConXFlow integration capability, to create a comprehensive case-by-case project lifecycle management solution and record system for the cruise line. Sitting on top of the firm’s existing Alfresco content management platform, SynApps ConXFlow provides an integrated process workflow to automate and streamline project management and associated communications using documents and information captured in Alfresco. The cruise line’s ability to respond more swiftly to changes earlier in the build cycle will enable significant savings. The fact that the company now has its own digitalised record of all shipbuilding plans will make renovations and adaptation of designs for sister vessels more efficient. This, along with the complete record of all interactions with shipyards, will also inform warranty-based work and contractual discussions.
